Dr Goodsell received his PhD in X-ray crystallography of DNA at the University of California Los Angeles. He currently serves as an associate professor at the Scripps Research Institute and a research professor at Rutgers University, New Jersey. Dr Goodsell is best known for his scientific watercolor renderings of cell interiors and has produced illustrations of SARS-CoV-2 and hepatitis C viruses for the IAS–USA.
