CROI recognizes that travel to scientific meetings in and outside the United States has become difficult for many in our community. Some colleagues face restrictions on entering the United States; others, including scholars, post-doctoral students, and investigators, face limits on travel funding or concerns about leaving the country while on a visa and their ability to return. Further, our colleagues in government institutions like NIH face restrictions on traveling outside the US. We understand that these and so many other barriers affect whether people can participate in person.

CROI 2027 will take place in San Diego, a location committed to some time ago. We continue to consider where future meetings can best serve our domestic and international scientific community. Given the complexities of meeting outside the United States, we believe that holding CROI in the United States currently serves the greatest number of attendees.

For those unable to join us in San Diego, we will have a robust virtual program. Registered attendees can watch presentations live or view recordings posted within hours, making them accessible across time zones. All posters are available online, and we encourage presenters to include a video. The Conference App also offers ways to connect with other attendees and speakers. We are also exploring other innovative options for speakers, presenters and attendees, and will provide additional information about the programmatic structure as it continues to evolve for CROI 2027.

We know virtual attendance cannot fully replace being together in person. Our priority is, as always, to make the science accessible to everyone who wishes to take part in CROI.
