The CROI Foundation and Program Committee welcome you to CROI 2025.

We recognize that this year’s meeting is taking place in a time of tremendous apprehension and uncertainty, as a result of recent actions by the US government. We stand united with our colleagues and partners in this country and around the world as together we navigate these difficult times. Every year CROI brings together a community of exceptional individuals dedicated to advancing scientific research and action; this year is no different. Indeed, in times like this, it is more crucial than ever for the scientific and advocacy communities to come together to support research and forge a path that enhances the lives of people around the world.

As always, CROI remains committed to the free exchange of ideas, investments in science and public health, translating research into evidence-based practices, supporting new investigators, and engaging with communities. We stand firm for freedom of expression and against any censorship of science, targeting of scientists, or withdrawal of research or programmatic funding.

The travel restrictions instituted by the US government for government employees have, unfortunately, limited their ability to attend CROI 2025 in person, but many will instead observe virtually. Nonetheless, more than 98 percent of the 1,170 accepted abstracts will still be presented at the meeting. Despite the current circumstances, the number of individuals attending CROI 2025 (both in person and virtually) has reached the highest level since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

CROI is an independent conference that receives no federal funding. We impose no restrictions on what speakers and attendees can and cannot say at CROI and the only guidance we provide on language is to encourage the use of people-first language. CROI will continue to offer a welcoming environment where people from around the world come together to share knowledge and new ideas and build bridges. And we will work to support all efforts that advance the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

Throughout nearly 45 years of the HIV response, our community has faced tremendous hardships and challenges, yet we have never backed away from our commitment to science and advocacy. That must be as true today as it ever has been. We look forward to standing strong with you as we navigate these difficult times.
