CROI is dedicated to supporting and mentoring new investigators through the CROI New Investigator Scholarship program. New Investigator Scholarship recipients can participate in a number of activities and networking opportunities in-person at CROI 2023.

Scott M. Hammer Workshop for New Investigators and Trainees

Widely considered the most informative and comprehensive session at CROI, this workshop highlights key presentations that take place during the conference. This year, 6 speakers will highlight advances in HIV and SARS-CoV-2 molecular virology and immunology; advances in HIV treatment strategies, biomedical prevention, and cure; and community perspectives. Scholarship recipients are required to attend the entire workshop. For more details, view the CROI 2023 Preliminary Agenda.

Meet the Luminary Sessions

The Meet the Luminary sessions began last year at virtual CROI 2022 and were an enormous success among New Investigator Scholarship recipients. This year, these small-group sessions (up to 20 new investigators) take place on Monday and Tuesday during lunchtime at CROI. This is the first year we will host these sessions in person. Each session hosts a leader in the field, generally a named lecturer or plenary speaker at CROI. This will provide a unique opportunity to meet and network with a leading scientific expert, and to ask questions one-on-one in an intimate setting. There will be 4 or 5 concurrent sessions offered each day. Each new investigator can sign up for 1 session.

Poster Walks (New for CROI 2023)

Daily Poster Walks take place during poster sessions on Monday through Wednesday, with concurrent Poster Walkers per day. Led by a CROI Program Committee Member or External Reviewer, Poster Walks provide a curated approach to key issues.

New Investigator Networking Room (New for CROI 2023)

New Investigator Scholarship recipients have access to a special networking room throughout the conference in the newly constructed Summit at the Convention Center in Seattle, Washington, USA.
