CROI Update on Information Related to COVID 19: February 12, 2020

CROI leadership has been closely monitoring the evolving situation with the novel coronavirus outbreak (COVID 19) in China and any impact it will have on the conference.  As of this date, we have the following information that may address the questions we have received from registrants and participants.

  • In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID 19 the US Federal Government has imposed travel restrictions into the US for individuals who originate from or have traveled to China. A number of US and other commercial airlines have suspended flights from most areas of China. Enhanced health screening is also being implemented at major airports in the US for travelers coming from areas where COVID 19 outbreaks have been recognized. The following link highlights the latest information about these travel restrictions (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/from-china.html)
  • CROI attendees who are impacted by and are unable to attend CROI due to these travel restrictions are being offered refunds on their registration fees. At present, this represents a small number of registrants.
  • CROI leadership is working with the Massachusetts Port Authority, the Hynes Convention Center, and local agencies to develop recommendations and precautions for attendees.
  • Our guidance indicates that the CDC does NOT currently recommend the general public in the US use facemasks as a precaution. Instead, the CDC recommends that the general public follow everyday preventive actions that include handwashing, covering your cough, and staying home if you are ill. CROI will follow this guidance and will not be providing face masks for attendees.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will post updates with any new information for attendees as it becomes available.
